What is the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment?

The aim of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) is to deliver an understanding of the current and future health and wellbeing needs of the local population over both the short term (three to five years) and the longer term (five to ten years).

It is intended to be the key mechanism for setting strategic priorities for the borough and informing local commissioning across health and social care services.

The Health and Social Care Act (2012) placed a statutory duty on both upper tier local authorities and Clinical Commissioning Groups to:

  • prepare a JSNA together
  • commission with regard to the JSNA
  • refer to the JSNA in the development of the local Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

The JSNA is an evidence-based document, intended to inform the development of the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

The Bromley JSNA is updated every two to three years, with separate reports produced for adults and children and young people.

Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy

The Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy outlines the priorities, identified in the JSNA and agreed by the Health and Wellbeing Board (HWB), together with the proposed actions and expected outcomes.

We are currently reviewing the process of developing the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and how it feeds into the development of the Health and Wellbeing Strategy. The Health and Wellbeing Board has agreed to extend the current Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
