Safer Bromley for Business
The London Borough of Bromley is one of the safest places in the capital to live and work. Bromley offers all the advantages of doing business in a London borough but with a low crime rate, making it a safer choice.
To keep Bromley safer, the Borough has an active Community Safety Partnership, involving representatives from the police, local businesses along with the Council itself to focus on issues and take appropriate action.
Closed Circuit Television
Many of Bromley’s main centres are covered by CCTV, which enables residents and visitors to go about their daily lives without fear. The Council is also investing in a mobile CCTV unit, which will be targeted specifically at anti-social behaviour across the Borough. The mobile unit will also be used to detect and tackle Enviro-Crime, as it can be placed in any quiet location to gather evidence against those guilty of fly tipping, graffiti and other acts of vandalism.
Supporting Businesses
The town centre management team has worked closely with local businesses and the police to establish initiatives that can assist businesses in reporting crime and dealing with anti-social behaviour.
Business Watch
This operates like Neighbourhood Watch schemes, enables businesses to report incidents and to receive information about criminals and crime trends in local areas. Members can also lease high-quality security radios, which allow the police and local businesses to communicate with each other as incidents happen. In towns with CCTV cameras the radios also provide a direct link to the camera operators. Currently there are Business Watch schemes in Bromley, Orpington, Beckenham, Penge and West Wickham. However, they can be run successfully anywhere, providing there is enough local support.
Responsible Host Scheme
The vibrant evening economy will be even safer with the new Responsible Host Scheme. Pubs and clubs registering in the Scheme will be judged a number of times during the year by an evaluation team led by the local authority and police. To achieve the award, establishments will need to have a trained member of staff to deal with drunk, rowdy or disorderly customers and, where possible, each establishment will be linked to the police and CCTV operators and will be an active member of the local security radio scheme.
