We are responsible for issuing licences to ensure the welfare and safety of animals included in the following types of businesses. Inspections are carried out and the premises have to comply with the relevant legislation and also codes of practice, and we work in close liaison with the RSPCA officer on animal welfare issues.
Any premises, regardless of the type of property, requires a licence if it is used for the boarding of animals, for example a catteryand kennels.
If you intend to keep dangerous wild animals you need to apply for a licence.
If you intend to breed dogs for sale, you need a licence regardless of the type of property you are operating from, even if it is your home.
If you intend to run a horse-riding school or hire horses out for rides you must be licensed.
If you keep animals to sell as pets, at any property, you need a licence.
