Fireworks or mixed explosives registration guide
If you intend to keep fireworks, mixed explosives or gunpowder at a premises you must apply for registration or a licence depending on the quantity you wish to store. We can provide advice about the application process and relevant contact details.
Details
A registration certificate or a licence must be obtained from the Police if explosives other than cartridges and fireworks are to be kept.
You
must register if you sell or store any of the following:
- fireworks;
- safety ammunition;
- cartridges for vehicle air-bags; or
- cartridges for nail guns.
Explosives must not be stored unless the premises are registered with us. The occupier of a registered premises must show all explosives kept on the premises, to any authorised officer, on request.
- All registrations are renewable annually.
- Registrations not transferable from one person to another.
- Only the occupier may register premises.

The new application fee is payable when your previous registration/ licence has lapsed, if changes are required to the application e.g. name of application or address of store or if you have never made an application to us before.
