main content Valuation and Estates

Valuation and Estates is a section of Property Division which provides professional property advice to the Council.

Council-owned land and premises

The Council owns a wide variety of land and premises which are used for its own purposes (civic buildings, schools, leisure centres, libraries, depots, day centres, parks etc) and also for investment purposes. We maintain a property register showing our ownership and we are developing a system to view our ownership online.

We do not keep records of privately owned property. For enquiries about property we don't own you should contact the Land Registry (the Croydon office phone number is 020 8781 9100).

Estates management

The Council’s property investment portfolio is managed by its in-house Valuation and Estates section. The management work includes lettings, rent reviews, lease renewals and dealing with repairs. The portfolio includes the following shopping parades:

Chilham Way, Hayes
Chipperfield Road, St Paul’s Cray
Cotmandene Crescent, St Paul’s Cray
Court Road, Orpington
Edgehill, Chislehurst
Eldred Drive, Orpington
Fordwich Close, Orpington
Grovelands Road, St Paul’s Cray
Hazel Walk, Bromley
Leith Hill, St Paul’s Cray
Mountfield Way, St Mary Cray

The Valuation and Estates section also manages a wide range of commercial and community properties including a number of prominent buildings; examples include:

The Former Bromley Town Hall
Community House, South Street, Bromley
The Former St Mark’s School, 8 Masons Hill, Bromley
Egerton Lodge, Park Road, Bromley
28 Beckenham Road, Beckenham
The Walsingham Centre, St Paul’s Cray

The Anerley Business Centre has recently been refurbished and rooms are available to let to small businesses at all inclusive rents from £325 per calendar month.

The section deals with the estate management of several farms in the Green Belt, as well as several grazing licences and other licences for the use of Council-owned land.

Valuations

The Valuation and Estates section undertakes valuations of land and buildings on behalf of the Council for a wide variety of purposes, including sales, purchases, lettings and rating. It also deals with major disposals of surplus property and sales of small areas of land.

Whilst the section does act for a number of other public bodies and housing associations (for example, Broomleigh Housing Association), it is not able to act for individual members of the public. Please note that the Council is not responsible for either Council Tax or Business Rate valuations. These are dealt with by the Valuation Office Agency (the Bromley office phone number is 020 8315 2800). There is more information about business rates appeals and other business rates issues elsewhere on this site.
