main content Overpayment of business rates

If you receive a bill showing a credit you will need to make a written request for a refund of business rates overpayment. See contacting the business rates department for details of where to send your request. A credit may occur due to an amendment from the Valuation Office so you will be awarded interest on the overpayment. Tax is deducted only on individuals. No interest will be paid if a liability order has been obtained in the relevant year.

Upon receiving a refund request the Council aims to process the refund within 10 working days.

Credits may be used to offset any arrears if requested.

A refund will not be issued if instalments are not maintained in the current year. The Council will usually transfer enough to bring the account up to date then refund the remainder, if any.
