Birth, death and marriage certificates
How to obtain duplicate certificates.
Eligibility
Bromley Register Office holds the records of births, deaths and marriages that occurred in the borough of Bromley from 1837 to the present day.
Details
Certificates can be obtained from the register office either by personal application or through the post.
Copies of birth certificates for people born in Bromley after 1966 can also be requested and paid for online here.
Please note: online services are only available for birth certificates for people born in or after 1966.

Details required:
- name of person whose certificate you require;
- date and place of birth, death or marriage; and
- parents' names and mother's maiden name (for birth certificates only).
A short birth certificate will only show the name and date of birth of the person.
Please note that certificates from church marriage registers are only available from the register office once the church has delivered the register to us. This happens when the register is full. Until then, certificates can be obtained from the church.
If you are not sure where a particular person was born married or died, you will need to use the national index that is compiled from all local register office records in England and Wales. The index and further information s available from:

A microfilm copy of the index is also available at the Local Studies Department in the Bromley Central Library.
Postal application for certificates from this local index can be made to the appropriate register office but please remember that the references shown on the microfiche do not correspond to the local index. Alternatively you can apply to:

If you have found out the "GRO" General Register Office index information from the Family Records Centre, you can apply for a copy certificate and pay on-line at www.statistics.gov.uk/registration/default.asp
Copies of decree absolutes are not held at the Register Office. These can be obtained from the county court where the divorce was heard.
Cost
Fees for certificates:
Standard birth, death or marriage certificate £7.00.
Short birth certificate £5.50.
Next steps
Applications by post should include a cheque or postal order made payable to the London Borough of Bromley and a stamped addressed envelope for the return of the certificate.
Applications for certificates can also be made at our counter from Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm.
