You can only apply online for birth certificates for people born in or after 1966.

Copies of birth certificates for people born in Bromley after 1966 can be requested and paid for online.

Details required:

  • name of person whose certificate you require;
  • date and place of birth, death,  marriage or civil partnership; and
  • parents' names and mother's maiden name (for birth certificates only).

Please note that certificates from church marriage registers are only available from the register office once the church has delivered the register to us.  This happens when the register is full.  Until then, certificates can be obtained from the church.

National index

If you are not sure where the event took place, you will need to use the national index that is compiled from all local register office records in England and Wales.  The index and further information is available from:

The National Archives

A microfilm copy of the index is also available at the Local Studies Department in the Bromley Central Library.
