Bromley Children Project
The Bromley Children Project aims to help children make the most of their time at school by empowering parents, encouraging them to be enthusiastic and involved in their children's education, and to continue their own education and training.

Communities Served by the Project

  • This project currently operates within the community in Mottingham, St Mary Cray, St Paul’s Cray, the Ramsden Estate, Penge and Anerley, and Bromley Common.
  • Within these communities, the Bromley Children Project is currently in 14 primary schools and providing a 'linked' service to several others.
  • The project is aimed at parents of young children (4 – 11 years old) and young children themselves within the local communities and, in particular, those in the 16 primary schools.

Details

  • The Bromley Children Project asks parents and children what would be useful – the parents and children determine what the project will provide.
  • The project offers a variety of activities, normally within walking distance and usually in the schools, in partnership with other agencies, e.g. Bromley Adult Education College, Orpington College, and Health.

    Activities include:
  • parent time
  • lifelong learning courses, e.g. classroom assistant courses, crèche worker certificate, book-keeping, computer courses, numeracy, literacy, first aid, British sign language, assertion and aromatherapy
  • training opportunities for parents, e.g. classroom assistant placements, and crèche worker placements
  • counselling, advice and guidance
  • individual child/parent and family support for parenting, emotional and practical difficulties
  • crèche facilities.
  • Parents gain new skills, qualifications, friends, and self-esteem and become more involved in their children’s education.
  • The combination of appropriate support and relevant learning gives parents the freedom to make positive changes in their lives, to feel more confident in themselves and in helping their children.
