Common Assessment Framework
The Common Assessment Framework (CAF) represents the Government’s recognition that the needs of vulnerable children cannot be met by a single agency, but must be addressed by co-ordinated, multi-agency support. The CAF addresses the need for co-ordination between services, appropriate information sharing, and sense of accountability among all workers who come into contact with a vulnerable child.
Anyone whose work brings them into contact with children and families should have an awareness of the CAF and either know how to complete a common assessment themselves or know how to arrange to have one carried out. Everyone working with children should be aware of the sorts of situations that indicate the need for a common assessment. Every organisation offering services to children will need to ensure at least some of its staff are equipped to complete common assessments.
The CAF Advice and Support Team is based in Bromley Central Library. The CAF Team is a multi-agency team consisting of colleagues with backgrounds in health, education, social care and the voluntary sector. The team has been set up to support the implementation of the CAF by offering advice, support and training opportunities to practitioners completing CAFs and/or acting as Lead Professionals.

Information for Parents
The Common Assessment Framework (or CAF) is a new way of working with children and young people. It involves listening to you and your child to find out your child’s needs, and what is working well in your child’s life. An action plan, agreed with you and your child, is also put in place to make sure your child gets the right sort of help. The CAF is voluntary – you and your child can choose to be involved.
