Children's trusts bring together all services for children and young people in an area, underpinned by the Children Act 2004 duty to cooperate, to focus on improving outcomes for all children and young people.

They will support those who work every day with children, young people and their families to deliver better outcomes - with children and young people experiencing more integrated and responsive services, and specialist support embedded in and accessed through universal services.

An Introduction to Children's Trusts

The Children Act 2004 (www.opsi.gov.uk) and the Every Child Matters: Change for Children programme requires all organisations who provide services to children and young people to work closely with each other in an arrangement called a children's trust.

National evaluation of children's trusts

In 2004 the Department of Education and Skills (DfES) and the Department of Health (DoH) asked the University of East Anglia (UEA) to conduct a three-year evaluation of the 35 children's trust pathfinders across England.

The final report of this evaluation was published on 29 March 2007 and is now available.
