main content Access to Information

Technically, any request for information held by or on behalf of the local authority is a ‘freedom of information’ request in the first instance. However, the Freedom of Information Act says that local councils should deal with requests for environmental information under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR).

If part or all of what is requested is personal information, and if the applicant is the subject of the information, then we will consider your request under the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA). In effect, these three pieces of legislation work together to give access to environmental, personal and all other types of information. If you would like to apply for information from us, please follow the appropriate guidance note.
