A ward is an electoral area of the borough. The borough has 22 wards, each of which elects councillors to represent them. As well as being the basis for the democratic arrangements, the Council and the Government hold and analyse a lot of statistics about the borough on a ward basis; for example, the census data on population profiles, plus information on prosperity, education, health and crime.
