main content Fraud

The Council recognises that fraud is not a victimless crime and it can affect the provision of essential services as well as potentially causing financial loss.

Details

Fraud is defined in Bromley's Anti Fraud and Corruption Strategy as :

"The intentional distortion of financial statements or other records by persons internal or external to the Council which is carried out to conceal the misappropriation of assets and funds for personal or other gain."

It is in the public interest for all fraud to be highlighted and investigated as soon as possible.

The London Borough of Bromley has been working in partnership with Greenwich Council to combat housing benefit and council tax fraud since April 2002. You can assist in the prevention and detection of fraudulent activity by phoning the freephone number to pass on any information relating to a suspected fraud.

All information can be submitted anonymously and will always be treated in the strictest confidence.

Bromley takes part in the National Fraud Initiative (NFI) exercises coordinated by the Audit Commission. This identifies potential fraud by 'data-matching' information from various authorities and government organisations.

By helping to ensure that fraud is stamped out in Bromley, it will allow us to use the funding that is available for the causes for which it is intended.
