main content Equality Scheme

The Council has an umbrella equality scheme, which addresses its general duty to promote equal opportunities to all.

The scheme is supported by a three-year equality action plan. Our functions, policies and strategies will be directed towards the following objectives; known collectively as the general duty:
• the elimination of unlawful discrimination;
• the promotion of equal opportunities; and
• the promotion of good relations between diverse community groups.
Our aim is to make the general duty an integral part of the way all public functions are carried out.

We will take account of equality and diversity in all policy-making, service delivery and employment practices.  As part of this we will undertake Equality Impact Assessments.
