main content Education Support

Specialist teachers and non-teaching assistants provide advice and support to school pupils who for a variety of reasons are having problems undertaking their studies. They are also able to advise schools and families and provide links to other services.

Teachers from the Pupil Support Service work closely with class teachers to help pupils in mainstream schools who need support with maths and literacy, whose first language is not English and pupils who come from Traveller families.

Specialist support is also available for pupils with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder, hearing impairment, visual impairment or with emotional and behavioural problems.

Special arrangements can be made to teach pregnant school girls, school-aged mothers and pupils who are unable to attend school due to medical needs or who are in hospital.

The Educational Psychology Service works in partnership with schools, parents and other professionals to help children who are experiencing difficulties with their education.

The Education Welfare Service provides a range of services to promote school attendance and social inclusion.
