main content Education Grants

Grants for higher education students have been replaced nationally by Student Loans, which are administered by the Student Finance team in conjunction with the Student Loans Company in Scotland.

Other grants for higher education students are available, such as a childcare grant for students with dependent children and disabled student allowances. The Student Finance Team can advise on these.

The Pupil Benefits section is responsible for authorising free school meals and clothing grants.

Although not in the form of a grant, help is available towards travel expenses for certain school pupils and for certain students undertaking further education courses at local colleges.

Grants are available to youth organisations that promote the development of young people, such as Scouts and Brownies, and for young people attending certain events through the Grant Aid scheme.

The Nursery Education Grant is a Government grant to provide funding for childcare places.

Pupils may be eligible for help with the cost of learning to play a musical instrument. Bromley Youth Music Trust operates a remission policy for parents on certain benefits. (see Music Service - Schools).
