Bromley children may be eligible for assistance with travel expenses from home to school.

Eligibility

You can apply for an Education Travel Grant if you are a resident of the London Borough of Bromley and

• your child is under 8 years old and has to travel more than 2 miles to a school, or
• your child is over 8 years old and has to travel more than 3 miles to a school,

AND

• the place offered is the nearest available school, but is more than 3 miles (or 2 if under eight years old) from your home, or
• you are not offered a place at your nearest school, but offered a place over 3 miles (or 2 miles if under 8 years old) away from your home, or
• you accept a place at the nearest Bromley Voluntary Aided school, provided the place is offered because of the religion of the family and the school is more than 3 miles (or 2 miles if under eight years old) from your home.

We may offer travel-to-school grants to one of the two selective secondary schools, if the school is more than 3 miles from your home and you are in receipt of either DWP Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, Working Tax Credit, Housing Benefit or Child Tax Credit only (gross income less than £14,495).

We may also offer travel assistance for those attending a Bromley 6th Form school if it is more than 3 miles from your home and you are getting any of the above benefits.

We may also consider claims for travel assistance if the child has proven medical and welfare needs.

Children aged 18 years and under in full-time education are eligible to travel free on London Transport Buses.

Details

When the Transport Officer has confirmed your entitlement to apply for assistance, you will be sent a form to complete. You must return this with written evidence supporting your application from relevant professionals (such as a doctor or social worker).
