Background

At his meeting on 19 October 2009 Councillor Ernest Noad, Children and Young People Portfolio Holder, authorised consultation on a proposal to increase the number of Year Reception places (ie the age at which children start school) at the following schools as from September 2011:

  • Bickley Primary - increase from 30 to 60
  • Churchfields Primary - increase from 30 to 60
  • Princes Plain Primary - increase from 45 to 60
  • Unicorn Primary - increase from 30 to 60.

Consultation Timetable

Consultation commenced 4 January 2010 and ends 19 February 2010. The Consultation outcomes will be reported to the 25 March 2010 meeting of the Children and Young People Policy Development and Scrutiny Committee (CYP PDS) - please note that the date has changed from 24 March.  The full timetable is available here.

Consultation Letter

A consultation letter outlines the case for the expansions and explains the different ways to respond to the consultation.  Letters were sent to parents/carers, staff and and governors of the four schools in early January 2010.

Report DCYP10011 to the Children and Young People Portfolio Holder on 19 January 2010 requesting the priorities for the Primary Capital Programme to be updated to accommodate the capital works required to facilitate the four school expansions, should they be agreed. The request was agreed.

Report DCYP10051 to the Children and Young People Portfolio Holder on 25 March 2010 providing details on the outcomes from consultation on the proposal to expand four Bromley primary schools.
