main content Exclusion from school

A child may be excluded from school if they have broken the school's discipline policy or when, if they stayed in school, it would seriously harm the education and welfare of themselves or others. This can be a very upsetting time for families, but there is advice and help available.

Eligibility

Parents who have a son/daughter at a Bromley School or are resident in the London Borough of Bromley can seek advice from Bromley's Social Inclusion Officer.

Details

When a school decides to exclude a child, they will:

  • inform the child's parent/carer by telephone;
  • send a letter explaining the reasons for the exclusion within 1 school day.
The letter will contain a contact for school work and details of how you can appeal against the exclusion.

Next Steps

The School will be happy to discuss the situation with you. You can also contact the following for advice:

  • Advisory Centre for Education (ACE), which is an independent advice centre for parents, offering information on many topics including exclusion from school;
  • Bromley's Social Inclusion Officer.
