main content Phoenix Pre-School Centre: Class Based Assessment Provision

The four classes at The Phoenix Pre-School provide part-time placements for children with a wide range of severe or complex needs.  All classes offer a warm and caring environment with high quality, intensive and rigorous assessment and intervention.  One class is dedicated to providing a low arousal environment with structures and routines specifically designed to suit the needs of a number of our children diagnosed with Autism/Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

Each class has a qualified teacher and two support assistants.  We also have dual workers who are trained to work in the classrooms as support assistants and to support children who have nursing needs.  Most children attend for two full days a week.

Whilst attending the Phoenix Pre-School, children are able to use the many facilities within the Centre.  These include the soft play area, a sensory room, hydrotherapy pool, the gym and a specially equipped playground.  A Speech and Language Therapist works with all the children and, in addition to this, the classrooms are supported by Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, nursing staff and Sensory Support Services.  Admission to the Phoenix classrooms is via the Early Support Pre-School Panel and our days of opening are in line with Bromley school term dates.

Our children are encouraged to attend a mainstream pre-school where there will be regular advice from the class teams and in some cases a Support Worker will be appointed by the Support in Pre-School Project (SIPS).

When the children are ready to move on, the transition process between The Phoenix Pre-School and the school placement ensures that essential information is shared to enable a smooth start in school.

Eligibility

Children between 2 and 5 years of age with physical, severe learning or sensory difficulties or social and communication delay and medical needs, or any combination of these, referred through the Early Support Pre-School Panel.
