Pre-School Provision for Children from Birth to Five with Additional Needs or Disabilities
Eligibility
Pre-School children with additional needs or disabilities, resident in the London Borough of Bromley, who have been referred through the Early Support Pre-School Panel.
Details
The following options are available:
- The Phoenix Pre-School Centre offers part-time class based assessment provision, incorporating specialist teaching and multi-agency support to children with a wide range of special needs, funded by Children and Young People Services.
- Bromley Portage is a home teaching service to help babies and young children whose development is delayed realise their full potential. Portage also offers an Early Learning Group and a fortnightly play session for parents and children (POPS).
- Petts Wood Playgroup is a voluntary sector playgroup providing part-time support to children with a wide range of special needs.
- Mainstream voluntary sector pre-school settings can cater for many special educational needs. A Support Worker can be allocated to work closely with the child and other staff at the pre-school to stimulate the child's learning.
- Some Borough mainstream and special schools have provision for nursery-age children.
Outreach support is given to children on dual placements between Phoenix class-based provision and Portage and mainstream settings.
Area Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCOs) and the Phoenix Education Team provide dedicated support, training and practical advice on special educational needs issues to Early Years SENCOs and other staff in Early Years and childcare settings.
