There are 44 conservation areas in Bromley. The Council has designed each one because of its special architectural or historic interest. Designation aims to protect an areas character and appearance by managing change in a sympathetic way. This is done through town planning legislation and local planning policies.

There are some additional planning controls in conservation areas and trees are given protection. For that reason it is advisable to check with the planning division when considering alterations or demolition works to property in a conservation area. Supplementary Planning Guidance notes have been prepared for most of our conservation areas to assist residents and developers.
