main content Land Charges

When you buy a house, your solicitor will make a search of the Council's records to ensure there are no hidden surprises, such as motorways at the bottom of your garden or outstanding Notices requiring you to take action to remedy an earlier wrong doing. Our local land charges service carries out all official searches covered by the Local Land Charges Act 1975 and guarantees comprehensive and timely replies to enquiries.

We can also provide help and advice about 'street naming and numbering'. Any new house, development, or redevelopment that takes place in the Borough needs to be named and numbered.

Other responsibilities of this Section include the registration and the maintenance of the "Common Land Register". Maps and documentation of these public records are open for inspection during office hours.
