main content Local Development Framework

The Local Development Framework (LDF) is the name given to the portfolio of local development documents (LDDs) which will provide the main planning framework for the Borough.

The terms LDF and LDD are introduced by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, which came into force in September 2004.

It is the Government’s intention that LDDs will progressively replace the development plan for the Borough (the Unitary Development Plan).

Following the adoption of the UDP (July 2006), the policies are ‘saved’ for three years. During this period, the LDDs in the LDF will gradually replace the UDP and other supplementary planning guidance as the main source of planning policy and advice.

To implement the new framework the Council has prepared a Local Development Scheme.  The first document to be produced is the Statement of Community Involvement which has been adopted.
