Bromley Town Centre Area Action Plan

This is an exciting time for Bromley- a time of opportunity and change

We are preparing an AAP(Area Action Plan) to guide development and improvements in the town centre over the next fifteen years to ensure that the town maintains its competitive position.
Creating vibrant and thriving town centres is a major priority for us as a key part of the vision to Build a Better Bromley.

Following consultation on wide-ranging options and opportunities held early in 2006, a joint meeting of the Executive and the Development Control Committee (DCC) has now approved revised preferred options for further public consultation.

These revised options identify opportunity sites for new or improved shopping, leisure, community, faith and health facilities, as well as additional housing.

The Area Action Plan will:

  • demonstrate how shops, housing, leisure, cultural faith and community facilities as well as new public spaces could be accommodated
  • ensure developments are of appropriate scale, mix and quality
  • protect the town's heritage whilst accommodating new development
  • stimulate regeneration
  • make the town a safer and more attractive place to visit

Further Information

A leaflet summarising the revised preferred options will be widely distributed around the town and to key stakeholders, and all those who have previously registered their interest will be contacted. It will also be available at all libraries and the Civic Centre.

The full Revised Preferred Options document and the Sustainability Appraisal Report are also available to view at all libraries in the borough and at Planning Reception in the Civic Centre.

Your town, your views

The consultation on the Revised Preferred Options for Bromley town centre is now closed. Thanks to all of those who have taken the time to submit their views. These will be fed into the draft Area Action Plan which will be presented to the Council for approval in spring 2009.

Next Steps

Views put forward during the six-week consultation on the Revised Preferred Options, that took place during 31 October to 11 December 2007, are being considered as part of the preparation of the draft Area Action Plan (AAP).

Consultation on the draft AAP will be undertaken later in the year prior to the document being submitted to Government for independent examination. Formal adoption of the plan is likely to be mid-2009. When the AAP is formally adopted it will provide a long-term framework for development and improvements in Bromley Town Centre.
