Environmental Health and Trading Standards achieved Charter Mark accreditation in 1993, 1996,1999, 2002 and 2005, we are one of only nine other organisations to have achieved five chartermarks and the only Environmental Health and Trading Standards service. The service has been assessed against the customer service criteria. These are:

  • set standards and perform well;
  • actively engage with your customers, partners and staff;
  • be fair and accessible to everyone and promote choice;
  • continuously develop and improve;
  • use your resources effectively and imaginatively;
  • contribute to improving opportunities and quality of life in the communities you serve.

Charter Mark encourages the public service to be the very best. It challenges organisations to set and publish standards and then be accountable to customers for those standards. It encourages innovation and service flexibility to users and will take into account their views and opinions. By achieving Charter Mark, the organisation can show that it has put their customers first and goes the extra mile. Charter Mark organisations will be standards-bearers for customer-focused improvements in public service delivery.

Charter Mark is both a standard of customer service and quality improvement tool. It is unique among quality schemes because it concentrates on the service actually provided to the customer. More information about Chartermarks generally is available at www.chartermark.gov.uk
