main content Energy saving tips

  1. Too warm? Turn the room thermostat down by 1°C and it could cut your heating bills by up to 10%
  2. Close your curtains at dusk to stop heat escaping through the windows
  3. Take care not to drape curtains over radiators as this will funnel heat straight out of the windows
  4. Always turn off the lights when you leave a room
  5. Avoid leaving appliances on standby
  6. Defrost fridges and freezers regularly to keep them running efficiently
  7. Choose the right size of pan for the food and cooker hob
  8. Keep saucepan lids on – this enables you to turn down the heat
  9. Don’t over fill the kettle for just one drink; only heat the amount of water you really need
  10. Wait until you have a full load before using your washing machine and try to use the low temperature programme
