main content Heating controls

You could cut central heating costs by up to 17% simply by controlling your heating more effectively by addressing these three elements:

  • On/off times for heating and hot water: A time switch or programmer turns your heating and hot water on/off automatically at the times you set. This is probably the most useful of all heating controls – saving you energy and money
  • Room temperature: A room thermostat automatically switches your heating off once it reaches your chosen temperature, and back on again if it drops below your comfort level. It should be fixed to the wall of your most frequently used room away from draughts, direct sunlight or other sources of heat
  • The temperature of stored water: A hot water cylinder thermostat will enable you to control the temperature of your stored hot water. For most people turning the cylinder thermostat down to 60°C is hot enough.
