main content Direct Let scheme

The housing options offered by the Council are aimed at helping people resolve their housing difficulties by giving them choices, which includes accessing properties within the private sector.

The Direct Let scheme allows private sector landlords to let their properties to those people in housing need and supports them through this process until the tenants are settled, which will normally take a few weeks.

The Housing Initiatives team within the Council operates this scheme and identify prospective tenants and match them to suitable properties. The process would take into consideration affordability, family composition, and personal circumstances.

The aim of the scheme is to offer people more choice in where they want to live and assists the landlord by keeping their property occupied with longer term tenants.

A property inspection will take place at the beginning of the process and health and safety certificates will be required to ensure that the property meets the required Decent Homes standard.
