Homelessness strategy for 2003 - 2008
Bromley’s homelessness strategy for 2003 - 2008 gives information on the Council’s approach to preventing homelessness, and providing accommodation and support for homeless people.
The Homelessness Strategy for 2003-2008 lists six main aims, of which five have remained the focus and commitment of the Housing Division.
- Prevent homelessness through effective advice and assessment services.
- Facilitate access to private rented accommodation for households in housing need.
- Increase the supply of permanent social rented accommodation.
- Prevent homelessness and assist homeless people through tenancy sustainment and support services.
- Work with partners inside and outside the Council to prevent homelessness from occurring and provide assistance if it does.
The sixth aim ”Increase the supply of suitable temporary accommodation” has been revised as a result of a new Government directive introduced in 2004 requiring that the use of temporary accommodation be halved in every Borough by 2010.
