Making a planning appeal

If you are considering submitting an appeal, it is possible to use our chargeable pre-application advice service  to seek the views of a planning officer as to whether there is scope to amend your proposal in a way that may overcome the council's objections. The name and contact details of the planning officer who dealt with your application can be found on your decision notice.

You can make an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate about your planning application if:

  • planning permission has been refused;
  • planning permission has been granted subject to conditions and the applicant wishes to contest those conditions;
  • the council has not issued a decision within the statutory period, which is normally eight weeks from date of submission.

The Planning Inspectorate will deal with the appeal on behalf of the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. More information about submitting an appeal can be found on the Planning Inspectorate website. You can submit an appeal online at the Planning Portal where further advice is also available.

Next Steps

An appeal must be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate within six months of the decision of the planning application or the expiry of the relevant statutory period, as appropriate.  Contact us if you need further advice.
