Primary school admission appeals
If you are not offered a place for your child at your preferred school you have the right of appeal under the School Standards & Framework Act 1998.
Key Stage 1 appeals
The law states that infant classes (Key Stage 1) must be limited to a maximum of 30 children. This impacts on how an appeal is considered and an appeal for a Reception place can only be upheld in very limited circumstances.
If an appeal does not satisfy any of these conditions then it cannot be upheld in favour of the parent/carer.
We would encourage you in the first instance to discuss your case informally with the Admissions Team who will give you advice and explain the process.
Reception intake 2014
To register an appeal for an Academy, Voluntary Aided (Church) or Foundation Bromley school please contact the relevant school after 19 May 2014.
To register an appeal for a Community or Voluntary Controlled Bromley school please request a form from the Democratic Services section of the Resources Department at Civic Centre on 020 8313 4595 after 1 May 2014. Forms must be completed and returned by 2 June 2014.
Current appeal procedures
The conduct of an Appeals Panel is governed by the DfE School Admission Appeals Code of Practice. The Appeal Panel’s decision is binding on the Authority and the School.
