Review of polling districts and places in the borough
Under legislation every authority must complete a review of each polling district and polling place in its area every four years. The last review took place in 2007. The next review is due to take place in 2011.
Notice of Review
We have announced the start of the review of current arrangements in the borough and you can view the official Notice of Review, which gives details of when and where comments or representations can be made in relation to the review
What does the review involve?
This review must be carried out to make sure that all electors have such reasonable facilities for voting as are practicable in the circumstances.
Doug Patterson, Acting Returning Officer, has made provisional comments and recommendations on existing arrangements.
Any elector in the Borough may make a representation in relation to the size and boundaries of polling districts and the location and suitability of polling places and polling stations. The council also welcomes comments or representations from any elected members in the area, local political representatives and any person or body with expertise in access for persons with any type of disability.
We invite your representations and comments in writing or by e-mail, no later than 23 September 2011. The closing date for comments has now past.
Once the review process is completed the Acting Returning Officer will report his findings to full Council on 24 October 2011 (not 27 October as stated in the official notice)
It is anticipated that final proposals will be published during December 2011. All proposals and comments will be available for inspection at the Civic Centre.
The 2011 statutory review has now concluded. Council agreed the Acting Returning Officers final recommendations at the meeting on 24 October 2011. Any alterations will take effect on the publication of the new 2012 Register.
