Proposal for a commissioned library service
Library strategy 2014
In 2014, the council developed a new Library Strategy in response to extensive consultation. The strategy set out the council’s plan for the future of the library service in challenging financial circumstances. The strategy agreed to:
- Seek to develop community management options at six community libraries
- Explore the option to seek an external provider to deliver direct management of the whole library service, including overseeing community management arrangements
- Explore opportunities to renovate and improve the physical consultation of all library buildings (including community managed libraries) to reduce ongoing maintenance liabilities. This builds on the investment that the council has already made at Biggin Hill, Orpington and Penge.
The Library Strategy was formally adopted in March 2015. Please see the Report to Renewal and Recreation Portfoilo Holder.
This was based on appropriate Equality Impact Assessments.
