Friends of Parks
Friends groups are made up of volunteers who wish to have a say in how their local parks are maintained, developed and used. These groups are constituted and organise entertainment and conservation activities in local parks. They work in partnership with the local authority to help secure lottery grants for improvements and assist with public consultations. It is free and easy to join a Friends group or to start one up from scratch.
Setting up a friends group
If you live close to a park that you care about and that has no existing friends group why not set one up yourself? We have partnership officers who will help so you will get lots of support and advice.
Further information
The Countryside Service is responsible for managing a range of publicly-owned local nature reserves, country parks and commons. Countryside officers oversee management of these sites supervising and working in partnership with relevant 'Friends' groups and other non-constituted groups, including the High Elms Volunteer Ranger Service, the Countryside Volunteer Ranger Group and Rights of Way Custodians.
