Managing our Town Centres
Town centre management
The town centres within the borough play a significant role in providing employment, local services and entertainment for residents and visitors. Each centre has its own identity and role to play. Town Centre Management is about working with businesses and other town centre stakeholders to help make each centre competitive.
Town Centre Management and Business Support team aim to create and maintain successful town centres that are thriving, vibrant and distinctive. To achieve this we are working with partnerships in each of the town centres across the borough. These partnerships vary in size and make up but include local traders and businesses, national chains, residents associations, police and fire services, voluntary and community sector organisations and others – in addition to local councillors.
Our remit is broad, to deal with all issues that might arise within a town centre at a strategic and local level. Themes that we work towards include:
- safer town centres;
- more accessible town centres;
- better promoted town centres;
- events to increase vibrancy and footfall
- high quality streetscape and environmental initiatives;
- strong town centre partnerships.
The following towns have a dedicated town centre manager to provide a more ‘hands on service’:
In the smaller towns we have a policy of assisting local traders' groups to help themselves by offering advice, expertise and support wherever possible. These towns include the following:
- Biggin Hill
- Petts Wood
- The St Mary Cray
- West Wickham
