Cycle safety and security

Cycling is fun, good exercise, environmentally-friendly and can get you through congested areas quickly. We’re encouraging adults and children to get on their bikes but make sure your bike has been safety checked first. It's also a good idea to have your bike security marked.

Before setting off you need to make sure the:

  • Brakes are in working order
  • Tyres are pumped up
  • Saddle height is correct
  • Handle bars are tightened
  • Gears are working smoothly

To check your bike is safe to ride, visit one of the 8 bike shops in the borough for an assessment. To avoid disappointment, telephone in advance to make an appointment, and please be aware that charges will apply for safety checks and repairs.
