Scientific enquiry - Environmental investigation (KS2)

This course has been developed specifically with Attainment Target 1 and Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA) units 5/6H in mind. We take the pupils through a Scientific enquiry.

Possible lines of enquiry

  • Ponds
  • number of different animals in the pond - top, middle and bottom
  • light area compared with shaded
  • shallow area compared with deep
  • comparison of animal variety in two different ponds
  • Plants
  • does the variety of plants change in the light compared with shade 
  • does the height of the plants change in light
  • does the height of plants change in trampled and untrampled areas
  • do the length and width of leaves vary at different parts of the plant
  • Minibeasts
  • do insects prefer tops or bottoms of leaves

  • There are many more ideas and possibilities that could be studied so do please discuss with us first and we can design a suitable course.
