Habitat comparison (KS2)

A habitat comparison of woodland, grassland and pond.

Description

This course aims to compare the three habitats in a very general way, demonstrating how plants and animals are adapted to the different conditions. The pupils will get a chance to sample the pond, grassland and woodland for an impression of similarities and differences. 

Areas covered

  • The procedure followed will be similar for all habitats
  • awareness activities to think about adaptations
  • sampling techniques for both plants and animals
  • safety awareness
  • care and handling of animals
  • observation of animals to look at simple adaptations
  • a chance to make simple comparisons of the habitats
  • basic introduction to food chains
