Bromley is famous for its connections with Charles Darwin, H G Wells and Enid Blyton. The borough has a wealth of history and archaeology that can be explored through the museum service.
Discover Bromley's past at the borough museum. We can be found at The Priory, a medieval building next to Orpington Library. Entry is free.
Crofton Roman Villa is the only villa open to the public in Greater London. You can find it next to Orpington railway station. The site is managed by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit and is open from April to October every year.
The museum has over 20,000 objects relating to the history of the borough, ranging from art to archaeology. Most of these items are in storage, but access can be arranged via the museum curator.
Bromley schools can take advantage of the museum's free education service. We offer talks and loans boxes on a range of subjects including the Romans, Tudors and Victorians.
Throughout the year the museum has an exciting programme of temporary exhibitions. We also organise free events for families over the Easter and summer holidays.
Local groups can book one of the museum's popular talks about the history of the borough. Free guided tours of the museum building, The Priory, can also be arranged.
