The front of The Priory

Discover Bromley's past at the borough museum. We can be found at The Priory, an important medieval building next to Orpington library. Throughout the year the museum holds a number of temporary exhibitions and events. We also have permanent displays about the history of the local area. Entry is free!

1 April - 31 October
Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm
Sundays and Bank Holidays 1pm to 5pm
1 November - 31 March
Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm
Closed Sundays and Bank Holidays

Transport
Bus routes: 51, 61, 208, 353, R2, R4 or B14.
Parking: There is a pay and display car park outside of the museum with 12 spaces and one disabled space. Access to the car park is via Aynscombe Angle off Church Hill or Orpington High Street.
Railway: The museum is a short bus ride or about 20 minutes walk from Orpington Station.

Access
It is advised that you contact the museum before your visit if you are physically disabled or have visual impairments.
The ground floor only is wheelchair accessible.
Enabling dogs are welcome.

Permanent Galleries

Bromley’s Past
Did you know that over 10,000 years ago woolly mammoths roamed Green Street Green? Or that H G Wells famous author of the War of the Worlds was born in Bromley? These fascinating facts and more are explored in this new gallery about Bromley’s past, stretching from prehistoric times to the present day.

‘Your Place!’
Opened in 2004, this attraction has proven to be our most exciting gallery yet! Designed to be fully interactive for all the family, ‘Your Place!’ has games, clothes, activities and books from the 1950s up to the present day. It is a place to share memories and experiences, and most of all it's your place to have fun!

The Avebury Room
MP, author, friend of Darwin, archaeologist, geologist , anthropologist and zoologist – but who was Sir John Lubbock, the first Lord Avebury? Find out about this great man of the Victorian era who introduced Bank Holiday Mondays!
