Become a park friend or volunteer
Friends groups are made up of volunteers who wish to have a say in how their local parks are maintained, developed and used. These groups are formally constituted and organise entertainment and conservation activities in local parks. They work in partnership with the local authority to help secure lottery grants for improvements and assist with public consultations. It is free and easy to join a 'friends' group or to start one up from scratch. Contact our Partnership Officers on 020 8461 7521 or 020 8313 4493 for information on how to begin or for contact details on the groups below.
Existing 'friends' groups
Volunteer groups
Volunteer groups are slightly different from 'friends' groups. These groups are not formally constituted and are made up of people who work under the supervision of local authority staff to undertake environmental tasks in parks and woodlands. Existing volunteer groups include
- High Elms Volunteer Ranger Service: undertaking conservation tasks within High Elms Country Park.
- Countryside Volunteer Ranger Service: undertaking conservation work in non-borough owned sites such as golf courses and the London Wildlife Trust site.
- Tree Wardens: identifying problems with trees, undertaking Ancient Tree Surveys and tree planting activities.
To join one of the above volunteering groups contact the High Elms Countryside and Parks Service on 01689 862815.
