This team is a dedicated unit of staff committed to keeping the borough’s parks and open spaces clean and safe. They undertake the following activities:

Community clear up days

We will work with any group of local residents, large or small, who would like to make a difference in their local park by helping to clear away rubbish, undergrowth or graffiti. All tools, materials and equipment will be supplied by us and we will take away whatever is collected.

Abandoned vehicles

Within 24 hours we will respond to any reported burnt-out or abandoned vehicle in a park (ground conditions permitting).

Fly-tipped rubbish

We will remove fly-tipped rubbish found in a park within 24 hours (large amounts may take a little longer).

Infrastructure repairs

We undertake general repairs and co-ordinates major repairs to the parks infrastructure such as fences, barriers, gates, signs, bins and buildings.

Removal of graffiti

We remove as much graffiti from parks as often as we can by painting over it or removing it using special chemicals. Where we are able to remove it ourselves we respond to reports of graffiti within 24 hours. Where graffiti is found on a brick surface or is covering a large area, we have to use the services of a specialist contractor which may take longer.

Events in parks

We are responsible for ensuring the safety of all visitors to our parks and open spaces and this is particularly important when our parks are hired to external organisations for outdoor events.  Don't hesitate to contact us if you require a Parks Hire Application Pack, or if have any questions or concerns about an event taking place in a park.

Off-road motorbikes

We work with the Metropolitan Police Off-road Motorbike Team in order to identify, apprehend and seize illegal motorbikes in the borough’s parks. We record and collate all motorbike complaint calls and target the parks concerned. Any information given to us is treated confidentially.  We also work closely with local police units in identifying and targeting anti-social behaviour hotspots in our parks.

Community

The team works closely with the South East London Probation Service in organising and participating in work projects for community service teams. These work groups go out weekly to undertake tasks that will directly improve the local community such as graffiti removal, painting fences, clearing rubbish, scrub and undergrowth.  We also undertake minor repairs and you can contact us to request a team visit to your local park.

Junior Citizen sessions

Junior Citizen is a project organised by the Metropolitan Police, in partnership with ourselves and other agents such as the Fire Brigade and St John's Ambulance Brigade. Regular sessions take place in primary schools across the borough with the objective of seeing every child in Year Six (the last year in primary school before going to secondary school) in order to teach them how to be safe, sensible and responsible for their actions.

Ward Security

Ward Security are under contract to the London Borough of Bromley to provide a mobile force of officers with trained security dogs. This organisation patrols the borough’s parks and open spaces to a pre-arranged schedule ensuring its staff visit as many of the borough’s parks as possible. They will respond to any call received from a member of the public via their control room operator. Their principal role is to uphold the parks byelaws and to prevent anti-social behaviour taking place.

Ward Security currently operate to the park opening and closing times, this means it operates until 11pm during the summer and until 7pm in the winter. Ward Security staff can be contacted direct on 0845 847 6180.
