Bromley Libraries support a number of local reading groups and most of our libraries host one. The book appreciation groups are for adults wanting to read something different, meet other readers or look more deeply into particular novels and factual books. There is also a teenage reading group based in Bromley Central Library and  Chatterbooks groups for younger children at several libraries. Sets of new and classic titles are available for the groups to borrow, including for those which meet outside of libraries.

Open to anyone who loves reading.

Details

At each meeting the library provides copies of a book that has been previously chosen, which is taken away and read by members of the group and then discussed the following month.

Book Appreciation Groups currently take place at the following libraries:

• Anerley Library: Last Tuesday of the month 2:15pm to 3:15pm
• Beckenham Library:Group 1 -  Last Wednesday of the month 6:30pm to 7:30pm; Group 2 (Beckenham Book Addicts) - 2nd Wednesday of the month 6:30pm to 7:30pm (first meeting 14 February 2007); Group 3 (Beckenham Book Readers) - 1st Wednesday of the month 6:30pm to 7:30pm
• Biggin Hill Library: Group 1 -  Last Tuesday of the month 7.00 - 8.00pm , Group 2 - Last Monday of the month (except August) 11:00am to 12:00noon
• Central Library (Bromley): Group 1 - First Thursday of the month 6:30pm to 7:30pm, Group 2 ("Wilde about Books" - Bromley Libraries' LGBT reading group) - Fourth Thursday of the month 6:30pm to 8:00pm
• Burnt Ash Library: Last Thursday of the month 2:15pm to 3:15pm
• Chislehurst Library: Group 1 - Last Monday of the month 6:30pm to 7:30pm (no vacancies at present);
  Group 2 - Second Monday of the month 6:30pm to 7:30pm.
• Hayes Library: Group 1 - Last Thursday of the month 6:30pm to 7:30pm; Group 2 - First Tuesday of the month 2:15pm to 3:15pm
• Mottingham Library: Last Friday of the month 6:30pm to 7:30pm
• Orpington Library: Group 1 - Second Tuesday of the month 6:30 to 7:30pm (no vacancies at present);
  Group 2 - Last Tuesday of the month 6:30pm to 7:30pm;
  Group 3 ("Foreword" - Orpington Library/U3A) -  Last Monday of the month 10:30am to 12:00noon.
• Penge Library: Group 1- Second Monday of the month 7:30pm to 9pm. Group 2 - Fourth Monday of the month 2:15pm to 3:30pm
• Petts Wood Library: Third Thursday of the month 6:30 to 7:30pm
• Shortlands Library: Group 1 - First Wednesday of the month 10:30am to 11:30am (except August) No vacancies at present ; Group 2 - Mondays - Every four weeks - 6:45pm to  7:45pm starts 19 January 2009 
• Southborough Library: First Tuesday of the month 10:30am to 11:30am
• St Paul's Cray Library: Group 1 - Second Tuesday of the month 10:30am to 11:30am No vacancies at present ; Group 2 - Third Friday of the month, 2.15 - 3.15 pm. First meeting 18 September 2009  
• West Wickham Library: Last Monday of the month 2:15pm to 3:15pm

Teenage Reading Groups are held at six libraries.

Chatterbooks groups for children are held at twelve branch libraries.
