As the Olympics are underway, the thoughts and best wishes of residents across the borough are firmly with Team GB Olympians as they compete in Tokyo.

At the start of the athletics competition, thoughts are particularly with Dina Asher-Smith and Adam Gemili, the Blackheath and Bromley Harrier athletes, with the Blackheath and Bromley Harrier Athletics Club having its headquarters in the borough.

Speaking on behalf of the borough, the Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Russell Mellor said, “Of course we are cheering on Team GB at the Olympics and there have already been some fantastic achievements.  We are cheering particularly loudly for Dina Asher-Smith and Adam Gemili as they compete, with Dina already through to the 100 metre semi finals.  We are very proud of their local connections and wish them all the best as they perform at the very highest level.”

The Mayor continued, “Congratulations to Dina too on being appointed as Team GB’s Olympic athletics captain.  We can learn much from Dina and Adam and I am hopeful that the next generation of Bromley athletes will be inspired even further and reach their competing potential as well.”
