Latest figures show that Bromley Council is among the top ten Local Authorities London wide and nationally for successful enforcement of the Blue Badge scheme.
Statistics recently published by the Department for Transport show that the London Borough of Bromley prosecuted 60 motorists for Blue Badge misuse during 2017/18. Of the 89 Local Authorities with a policy for prosecuting abuse of the scheme, Bromley is fifth highest in London and sixth highest nationally with some Local Authorities not prosecuting anyone.
Councillor Kate Lymer, Bromley’s Executive Councillor for Public Protection and Enforcement said: “We work really hard to protect the Blue Badge scheme for genuine users and as can be seen from these results, we have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse. We will not hesitate to prosecute cases where our investigations prove that misuse has taken place.”
Councillor Lymer added: “Abuse of the scheme directly affects disabled visitors and those able-bodied drivers who misuse Blue Badges must realise the implications. Badge holders who cannot park sufficiently close to their destination often end up having turn back home without doing what they set out to which simply is not acceptable”.
