Tickets are being made available for a commemorative and celebratory beacon lighting ceremony at Crystal Palace Park in recognition of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

The free ticketed celebratory event will take place on Thursday 2 June, marking the start of the four-day commemorative bank holiday in Bromley. Residents attending the event can enjoy an evening with a traditional bugler, bagpiper and choir performing as the beacon is lit. Tickets are being allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis and are available online. Book tickets.

A council spokesperson said, “We will be joining with over 1,500 beacons being lit across the country and beyond to honour Her Majesty’s outstanding achievement of 70 years of service to the nation. We would like to thank our partners at the Crystal Palace Park Trust for their support in organising this event and encourage residents to come and enjoy with a picnic while watching the evening ceremony.”

The council is delivering a rich programme of cultural activities and events across the borough to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. This includes film screenings, children’s art challenges and storytelling activities, and a parade of the uniformed groups. Further details are still to come about many of these events, including about an exciting two-day concert on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 June in Queens Gardens, Bromley which will showcase local talents. Further information about the council’s plans, including how local acts can apply to take part in this concert, are available at www.bromley.gov.uk/platinumjubilee.

Other commemorative activities also include planting over 1,500 trees being planting by the council in support of the Queen’s Green canopy initiative, which is the national tree planting initiative marking the Platinum Jubilee.  Residents are also being encouraged to take part in this planting scheme and these planted trees can be recorded on the Queens Green Canopy website.
