Views are being sought on a proposed planning policy for the future of Orpington town centre and residents are strongly encouraged to take part. The consultation period has been extended until 1 July

Residents, businesses and interested town centre visitors now have an extra month to submit their views on a draft planning policy, which will be used to guide future development in Orpington town centre.

The consultation is on a draft Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for Orpington town centre. When adopted, this policy will be considered when determining future planning applications in the town centre, supporting existing planning policy set out in the Local Plan and the London Plan. Submissions can be made at  www.bromley.gov.uk/Consultation

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “I know that many residents care deeply about this important town centre. To make sure that your views are reflected in our planning policies for Orpington, I strongly encourage everyone to get involved in this consultation, which will help shape the town centre for the next generation. Thank you to everyone who has already responded to the consultation and if you have not yet responded, you now have some more time to provide your input and we look forward to hearing from you.”

Orpington town centre, lying to the Southern end of the Cray Valley, has a major influence over a large part of the borough, providing shopping and leisure facilities for a large number of residents. This new guidance is designed to protect and enhance the vibrancy and character of the town centre to enable it to adapt and thrive.
