In recognition of Ukraine’s Independence Day, Bromley’s multi-agency Ukraine Support Hub remained open all day today.

The Ukraine Support Hub, which opens on a weekly basis, each Thursday morning, has brought a range of service advisors together, to offer bespoke advice to Ukrainians who have recently arrived in the borough as well as to residents who are sponsoring hosts.

Over 500 Ukrainians have now arrived in the borough as part of the Homes for Ukraine initiative, with hundreds more estimated to have arrived, living with family members in the borough.  Official government statistics show that the borough’s residents are jointly hosting the fifth highest number of Ukrainians in London.

Speaking about the Ukraine Support Hub, Councillor Kira Gabbert, Chairman of Children, Education & Families PDS Committee and Bickley and Sundridge ward councillor, who has led the council’s work supporting Ukrainians, said: “When we remember Ukraine Independence day, we know that Bromley borough residents have stood with the people of Ukraine.  The scale of what we have achieved together has been immense and thank you, on behalf of so many to all the residents and community groups who have helped.”

Councillor Gabbert  continued, “The scale of the task is immense and long term support will be needed for Ukraine and its people.  The help that has been so generously offered by Bromley residents to Ukrainians locally continues to be needed. Thank you to the many, many residents who are continuing to support this work on a daily basis.”

The Deputy Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Christine Harris also attended Bromley’s Ukraine Support Hub today, along with the Leader of the Council, Councillor Colin Smith and Councillor Diane Smith, Executive Councillor for Adult Care and Health.
