The recent arrival of housing units on site signalled a crucial milestone for Bromley construction works, as a crane visible from Burnt Ash Lane lifted purpose-built apartments onto the site.
The news follows the start of construction work on part of the Brindley Way car park site this spring, which is part of the council’s commitment to building Bromley Homes for Bromley People. The development will deliver 25 much needed one- and two-bedroom affordable apartments this autumn, once finishing works are completed.
These energy efficient, affordable homes are being delivered by the council’s contractor, ZED PODS Ltd who constructed the units offsite to minimise disruption to nearby residents while ensuring that the works can be completed efficiently. The craning works involve the apartment units being lifted onto steel podiums at the site. This arrangement allows for residents’ car parking with electric car charging underneath the units, which will sit adjacent to a reconfigured public car park to reopen following these works.
Councillor Peter Morgan, Executive Councillor for Renewal Recreation and Housing, said “I am pleased to see these works advancing, which form part of an initial £10 million investment from the council to increase the housing supply across the borough. This site is one of several similar developments underway across the borough, showing the council’s long-term commitment to addressing Bromley’s housing needs.”
Councillor Morgan continued, “This new housing is so essential because it provides suitable accommodation for families who desperately need it, while simultaneously reducing the number of families the council must house in expensive, nightly paid accommodation.”

This development will also include advanced energy saving technology to reduce running costs, such as triple glazed windows and mechanical ventilation which can recover wasted heat. The journey from initial feasibility to planning undertaken by our team has been fantastic, and we look forward to completing the entire scheme within next few months.”
This site in Burnt Ash Lane forms part of an initial £10m investment by the council to bring forward high quality, affordable housing across the borough. The other two developments included in this programme are at Bushell Way in Chislehurst and at Anerley Town Hall. Further sites are also being explored, including at York Rise where a planning application for the development of 35 residential homes has been submitted.
